What’s New With the UTG®?

Shift4 provides the latest and greatest payments technologies to keep your business thriving and your customers happy. We listen to your feedback and regularly update our Universal Transaction Gateway® (UTG®), keeping your payment security, efficiency, and business operations in mind with each new UTG build. While some of these updates are minor tweaks and behind-the-scenes improvements, others may have a larger impact on your business, so we’d like to highlight the most notable new UTG features.

Our most recent UTG release, 2281, was made available on April 4, 2016. If you have not already performed the update, please do so at your convenience. When you do, you will have access to all of our most recent features and additions, including:

    • New Prompt Feature – If a customer is in-store, but you don’t have the item they want in stock, you can enable a new prompt to initiate a purchase through your online store. Customers can input information, such as their street address, ZIP code, or card expiration date, so your online store or warehouse can process a card-not-present transaction. Shift4 creates a temporary token for this information until the order is fulfilled and the transaction is complete. (Please note that your point-of-sale system may require additional coding and certification to begin using this feature.)

 

  • Signature Capture Enhancement – Since a signature is not required with EMV “No-CVM-Required” transactions, we’ve updated the UTG so that it no longer prompts the cardholder for their signature in these cases, improving EMV device functionality and saving time at the checkout counter.
