Recent UTG Updates
Shift4 supports the latest and greatest payments technologies to optimize your payment processing efficiency and security. As such, we listen to your feedback and update our Universal Transaction Gateway® (UTG®) on a regular basis.
While some of these changes are minor tweaks and behind-the-scenes improvements, others may have a larger impact on your business, so we’re highlighting the most notable changes from our recent update.
UTG 2282 was made available on May 25, 2016. If you have not already made this update, please do so at your convenience. When you do, you will have access to all of our most recent features and additions.
If you use Ingenico RBA devices, then there are also some specific changes that you should be aware of:
- EMV Transactions – We have made some general enhancements to how Ingenico RBA devices handle EMV transactions, including changes to EMV debit handling that will make the end-user experience less confusing. This change will, however, require cardholders to enter their PIN number when presenting a debit card that is EMV capable on a terminal that supports PIN. This is more secure, helps minimize the merchant’s liability for card fraud, and will likely benefit merchants on interchange fees as well.
- More BIN Range Override Options – In a previous update, we allowed merchants to bypass CVV and expiration date prompting as well as Luhn Mod 10 validation for specific BIN ranges. Now, if you’re using Ingenico RBA devices, you can also override the street number and postal code. This means that if you need to manually enter card information, you can require these verification methods for credit cards, but bypass them for gift cards. If you want to configure your BIN override settings, you can do so under the Devices tab in UTG TuneUp.
