Giving Back Through Golf
There’s something wonderful about being able to give back; it’s even more wonderful when you get to give back while enjoying one of your favorite pastimes. Shift4 was once again able to combine giving and golf as we sponsored this year’s Shriners Hospitals for Children Open golf tournament, played in our own backyard at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas.
We sponsored the tournament’s putting green along with the Public Safety Appreciation Station (PSAS), a hospitality venue where public safety officials including law enforcement, fire & rescue, first responders, and active and retired military personnel were able to enjoy complimentary food and drinks while watching tournament play with amazing views of the 16th green and 17th tee.
We were humbled and moved by the hundreds of heroes who joined us in the PSAS during the tournament. We hosted veterans of every major campaign since WWII, as well as police officers, paramedics, and firefighters who put themselves in harm’s way on a daily basis to protect and serve each of us. It was a great honor to be able to give back in some small way to these men and women who have given so much.
With the tournament becoming an official FedEx Cup event this year, there were some big changes, including a stronger field of players than ever before (thanks to the significantly larger prize money purse). Most exciting for us, though, was that the tournament announced a new awards ceremony – not for the golfers, but for the sponsors who make the tournament possible. We are very excited to announce that Shift4 was named as the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open’s inaugural “Corporate Sponsor of the Year.” Shriners’ patient ambassadors presented the award to us during a reception following the end of Round 1 play.
With all these great experiences, you’d think it would be hard to pick a favorite moment for the event – but it’s not. Hands down, the best moment of the tournament came Sunday morning when we were able to present the proceeds of our Birdies4Shriners fundraiser to Shriners Hospitals officials.
By now, you’ve probably heard about our Birdies4Shriners campaign, where we donate money to the Shriners Hospitals for Children each time Scott Piercy or Ryan Moore (Shift4-sponsored PGA TOUR professionals) make a birdie, eagle, or ace during tournament play. But what you might not know is that this year, the campaign generated $90,000 for the hospitals.
To be able to present this donation, and to know that it will help provide care for sick and injured children who otherwise may not be able to afford the medical attention they need, was an incredible experience for all involved. Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to those of you who joined us in the fundraiser. Thank you!
