Shift4's E-Payment Solution Expands to Include Canadian PIN Pad Debit

New Offering Leads to New Clients Niagara Parks Commission and Build-A-Bear Workshop

Las Vegas, NV, December 10, 2003 – Shift4 Corporation, developers of DOLLARS ON THE NET®, the leading web-based e-payment gateway solution with real-time electronic payment authorization, settlement, reporting and fraud control capabilities, has expanded its solution to include the processing of Canadian debit PIN pad transactions.

The majority of payments at the point of sale in Canada are debit payments. The acceptance of such payments is therefore critical to the success of any enterprise. Unfortunately, the Canadian (INTERAC®) debit system is different and a lot more complex than the US system. This, combined with the intense certification process required for Canadian debit, meant that integrated debit at the point of sale in Canada was just a dream – until now.

For years, Shift4 has had the ability to accept credit card payments through any banking institution within Canada. It has now implemented the same unsurpassed solutions for INTERAC debit transactions. Point of sale systems all over Canada are now able to accept debit transactions with no more difficulty than accepting payments in the US. Best of all, Shift4 not only makes it easy to accept Canadian debit, it provides the fastest, least expensive Canadian debit authorizations available.

“We are proud of the robust Canadian PIN pad debit functionality now included in DOLLARS ON THE NET,” stated Dave Oder, President & CEO, Shift4. “It allows us to offer a truly enterprise-wide solution and attract some exciting and innovative international clients to our expanding customer base.”

Shift4, in conjunction with its partner Retail Technologies International®, has already installed its new Canadian PIN pad debit solution in some of Canada's most prestigious retail outlets, including Niagara Parks Commission and Build-A-Bear Workshop.

Founded in 1885, the Niagara Parks Commission is a self-funding agency of the Ontario Government charged with preserving and enhancing the natural beauty of the Falls and the Niagara River corridor. The Niagara Parks Commission maintains over 4250 acres of parkland stretching along the entire length of the Niagara River from Fort Erie to Niagara-on-the-Lake, with no cost to the taxpayer. Because they receive no government financing, they raise their own revenue through gift shops, golf courses, restaurants, attractions, parking lots and rentals. It is in these many retail stores that Shift4 implemented its DOLLARS ON THE NET solution.

The variety of retail outlets operated by Niagara Parks created a unique mix of connectivity and infrastructure challenges, with Internet connections ranging from dial-up to wireless. However, with its immense flexibility, DOLLARS ON THE NET was able to meet those challenges, delivering sub 5-second authorization times for both credit and debit transactions at each and every store. DOLLARS ON THE NET is integrated directly with Niagara Park's RetailPro® point of sale solution. This integration is full featured and supports all of Shift4's products including credit, debit (US & Canada), gift/loyalty cards, checks and more.

“We are extremely pleased by the additional transaction speed and control provided by DOLLARS ON THE NET,” said Steve Neamtu, Manager, Information Technology, Niagara Parks. “What's truly amazing though is that we experienced this marked improvement without needing to purchase or dedicate any additional hardware.”

Build-A-Bear Workshop, honored as the 2001 Retail Innovator of the Year, combines the universal appeal of plush animals with an interactive process that allows children to create their own huggable companions. These fun, family oriented stores took the US by storm and have now expanded into Canada. To help with this international expansion Build-A-Bear turned to Shift4.

Build-A-Bear, who also uses RetailPro, is rolling out DOLLARS ON THE NET at every one of their Canadian locations. DOLLARS ON THE NET provides Build-A-Bear with its first fully integrated credit/debit solution, and its extremely fast transaction times ensure that these busy stores can maintain the high levels of customer service for which they have become famous. Plus, as Build-A-Bear continues to expand throughout Canada, corporate installers and trainers can easily implement DOLLARS ON THE NET at each new location without the need for Shift4 personnel on site, saving significant costs and time for this rapidly expanding retail chain.
