Shift4 firmly believes in the importance of security when it comes to your enterprise and, most importantly, your data. Shift4 was the first gateway to be certified compliant with the Card Association’s security regulations and we have spent the past few years working diligently to ensure the security of all the merchants who utilize Shift4 and $$$ ON THE NET. That is why we are especially delighted to announce the Spring 2006 Release, which centers largely around bolstering your security options within $$$ ON THE NET, as well as a few usability and organizational changes.
The new release is scheduled to go live on May 9. At this time, users will notice a variety of changes, including:
Expanded Onscreen Help – In order to help users better navigate through thes system, we have added a great deal of onscreen help and information. This information will often be found at the top of the screen next to the
icon and will provide more detailed assistance in regards to the features on a particular page. We have also added descriptor text to many fields to aid users in understanding the system.
Logging In – If you know your password and enter it correctly, you will notice no changes in the Login page or process. If, however, you have entered your password three times incorrectly you will now be taken to a Visual Verification page. This page will require the user to enter the code shown on the screen before continuing with the password recovery process. Entry of the code ensures that a real person is sitting in front of the computer trying to login and prevents automated attacks against the system. Once the visual verification is complete, users will then be required to answer correctly three of the five password recovery questions they defined during setup before being able to login.
Creating New Users – When you create a new user or edit an existing user, you now have the ability to randomly assign temporary passwords to be emailed directly to the user. The user can then login and change their password to something easier for them to remember, but that no one else knows. This is an important addition to the security of your system as you no longer have any individuals who have “all the keys to the kingdom ”, knowing every users’ password.
Working with Business Dates – Business date selection is a necessary step in settling transactions to the bank. When first selecting a business date, the Business Date page will be the same. Now, however, when you return to the Business Data page you will see a new Release Current Setting button. Selecting this button will remove the association between the transactions and the selected business date.
It’s Your Card® Users –To assist our customers who utilize our gift card solution, It’s Your Card, in conjunction with $$$ ON THE NET, we have added two powerful new features.
In addition to the features that will be immediately available to all of our users, there are another set of features that we will be rolling out to our customers over the next several months. In order to activate these features, your account must be moved to our new database schema. There are two key features that will become available to you as your account moves to the new schema.
Account Security – One of the biggest concerns facing merchants today is being compliant with all the various security programs. MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover now all require you to be in compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS). Failure to comply can lead to extensive audits, expensive fines and even the loss of your ability to accept credit cards. Shift4 is dedicated to helping you comply with regulations by offering the most secure payment processing possible.
The new Account Security page has a variety of features that allow you to designate exactly how you want to control security from a user access and password point of view. Administrators can define the requirements for password length, composition and expiration period, as well as the number of allowed login attempts and the duration of lockouts.
Administrators can set whatever requirements they like. Or, they can simply select the security programs that they want to be in compliance with and $$$ ON THE NET will automatically select the settings required by those regulations.
Shifts –
$$$ ON THE NET now allows you to define and assign scheduled work shifts. The Account Administrator can create various “shifts” of time that designate different hours of work in which a user is allowed to have access to the system. There are no limits to the configurations or number of shifts that can be created and stored. During a user’s assigned shift, their user name and password will allow them complete access to all areas for which they have permissions. During their off hours, they will not be allowed to access the system at all, even from their office computer. Not only does this tool help you comply with various security programs, but it provides yet another level of control over the access of credit card information by users.
All customers will eventually be moved over to this schema automatically. However, if you want to have access to these features sooner, please contact our Account Management team at myaccount@shift4.com.
